Russian mega miner Mechel has TransContainer move 5,N000 TEU a year

May.7--MECHEL OAO, a leading Russian mining and metals company, has announced signing an agreement to transport cargo with the Russia's leading intermodal container operator, TransContainer.

TransContainer will handle multimodal transportation of Mechel?|s cargo with an annual turnover of 5,000 TEU, reported the American Journal of Transportation, of Plymouth, Massachusetts.

The agreement was signed on the sidelines of the 19th Moscow International Transport & Logistics Exhibition and Conference "TransRussia".

TransContainer already handles 400-450 TEU monthly with Mechel's industrial facilities to the company's partners in Russia and abroad, said the report.

Said TransContainer CEO Petr Baskakov: "With the signing of this agreement,N our cooperation will become systematic. The geography of our work covers not only Russia but CIS member states and Asia Pacific countries."

Said Mechel managing director Sergei Kulakov: "This new format of cooperation with TransContainer will enable us to streamline the container transport system. We will improve logistics and bring down transport costs."
